Golfeshan is one of the most amazing geo-tourism phenomenon that has always attracted the attention of geologists and fans of nature. It is located 120 kilometers from west of Chabahar in Tang village near Konarak.
This phenomenon is scientifically called ‘Mud Volcano’ which can be only found in few parts of the world and in one color. The scattered mud is white, yellow and pink that shows the ingredients of iron. Simple mud volcano emits grey mud. 100 kilometers from the west of Chabahar - in the plateau of Kahir around a narrow road towards Bandar Abbas - located three mud volcanos. Two of them are like hills and the other one is the only active volcano. Local people call this phenomenon the navel of sea or ‘bolobolo’. Most of people say that it sounds like shooting gun. The height of these mud volcanoes of Chabahar reaches over 20 meters and their diameter is 12 meters or less.
Some mud volcanoes emit mud from their scope, but the narrow one does it only from its opening. Chabahar mud volcanoes have a tectonic origin and are cool. Mud fast deposition and remaining fluid of the waters within it with pressure from low side causes water and mud eruption out along with the gas. The gas of Mud volcanoes of Chabahar is methane and dark gray, and sometimes bright. Its bubbles ̣drop is 30 cm, which is larger than all the mud volcanoes of country.
It takes an average of 15 to 600 seconds to form bubbles and each time, 3 to 5 liters of them are ejected. Life of bubbles lasts only a few seconds. The mud of mud volcanoes of Chabahar is stronger than every other mud volcano.
The mud temperature is cooler than the ambient temperature and it approximately has a neutral or alkaline state and tastes salty. Their mud can be used in industrial ceramics, pottery, bricks, taking advantage of the gas, tourism, therapeutic mud, etc. Local people immerse themselves in mud and then stand to pray and worship as they consider this mud therapeutic. They sometimes take a little mud home for therapy purposes. With regard to the studies that have been conducted it is proven that treatment of diseases such as joints, spine, neurological disease, muscle contraction and etc. is possible with this mud.
The mud contains organic compounds and no toxic is observed. 40% of mud volcanoes in the world belongs to Azerbaijan and the largest in the world with a height of 500 meters is available in Pakistan. The locals believe whatever the mud volcano swallows; the sea ejects a few kilometers farther. At the time of the earthquake, in the storm and the raging of the sea and also during the rain, the mud’s activity increases several times more. And sometimes the gas comes out of it and can fire.
